Julia and I have been guiding the tours and Chris has been very busy with his barefoot mission. Chris trims all our horses barefoot and we are proud to say most of our horses are now barefoot gravel crunchers without the need to have horrid metal shoes nailed on. Those that are not totally ready to go barefoot are happy hacking along in their Easy boot hoof boots. They are like Nike's for horses! He has also been trimming a lot of clients horses who believe like us that it is far more natural to have the horses barefoot even if it is a big commitment! Thanks to Chris there are a lot of happier horses in the area.
The farm is overrun with rescue dogs right now and we have 8, but hopefully someone is coming this afternoon who can offer one a great home. Our latest arrival was a small sausage dog cross that is so sweet. We found her at the side of the road with no hair and covered in open wounds. We still dont know what colour she is going to be as her hair is not grown back yet, but i think she is going to make someone a great dog!
My Parelli training (check out www.parelli.com) has been going great guns and we are hoping to have clients coming for horse training vacations in the not to distant future. They will get to ride the beautiful forests and rivers here in the mornings and then learn natural horsemanship techniques in the afternoon.
All in all life is very exciting here at Discovery Horse Tours and we are loving every minute of it!
The photo below is Julia (our guide) and Matilda the new rescue the day we picked her up!
