Horse shopping 09/30/2009
Today was a fun fun fun day for me. I went horse shopping!!!! My wonderful Mum and Stepfather have kindly offered to buy us another horse for the tour at the new farm. Off into the mountains we went with Luismarrow who knows everyone from here to Hondorus with a horse, it seems!! We tried many today, about 7 in total and found a lovely grey gelding on a farm nearby. He is terribly head shy and been roughed up, so cant wait to get him and work with him. I am sure he is going to come good really quick. The seven games will give him confidence. I rode him over all sorts of terrain and he was like a mountain goat. Fingers crossed his blood tests come back good. Chris has had a more difficult day with ichy scratchy plants, hand planting grass and dealing with machines that wouldnt co-operate. Poor guy. Still it will all be worth it in December......fingers crossed!! Add Comment Sri Lankan Cowboys 09/28/2009
We had a great group of riders today, three were from Sri Lanka, which is a first! Chris spent a large part of his misspent youth surfing there, so it was a shame he couldnt meet them. He is busy planting the grass for the horses at the new farm (La Quina is the name of the new farm). I worked on of our latest horses Archie today. He is responding so well to Parelli. He was so nervous and resistent when we bought him, and now he is so much more relax. A real sweet heart. The photo below is of my friend Laurie giving him one of his first ever hugs, he really likes them now. I am getting more and more excited about the move now, and just dont think i can wait any longer. Yesterday i walked all the new trails and they are amazing. We are planning on introducing Costa Rica to the fun of "Jump Cross" which is huge in the UK. You have all the fun of cross country riding, but you go over jumps that will fall if you hit them. Will let you know when we hold the first event! Should be fun. Well now we pray for sun and rain in equal messages so the grass will grow strong and long! Today we have been out on the new farm making trails through the jungle. The wildlife here is AMAZING. We can not wait to open the tours here in Mata de Platano on December 1st. Chris has been working like crazy to get everything finished on time! Moving is never easy and whilst we are only going 15 mins down the road, when you include 12 horses, lots of rescue dogs, barns and all the rest it turns into a military operation! Chris did find time today though to trim Whiskey who's feet have been rehabing now for over 1 year. Somehow Chris has managed to keep him completely sound which is amazing considering the photo below, this was when we pulled his shoes! The second photo was taken in April, and whilst he still has very high heels, he is looking so much better, and the third photo is this past week. The heels are gradually getting lower but it's a long road !! Andrea x | AuthorDiscovery Horse Tours are dedicated to proving that working horses can be treated with love and dignity.
