A wash out! 05/28/2010
Rain, rain and more rain has been the go this week. We had to cancel every tour we had this week, which wasn't good. Never mind these things happen. The rain was relentless. We did finally managed to take two wonderful honeymooners out yesterday, poor things had been subjected to nothing but rain for their whole week. We luckily got a break in the clouds and got them out and they loved it. Champagne and strawberries at a private waterfall will brighten any day i reckon! With the rain came the usual round of problems, trees down, minor flooding, sulking dogs and horses that would rather go out and get wet then be in lovely warm barn! Every time we turned around the cats had curled up on the horse blankets, the dogs had crept in under the saddle racks and curled up on the blankets waiting to be washed! And the horses were trying to escape from the barn! When we let them out after the worst of the rain had passed, they went around the field like their tails were on fire! It was beautiful to watch. Finally the sun has appeared today and the clean up can begin! The photo is of me on Casper after checking the trails for fallen trees. It looks bad, but i was having a blast ! The other is of Rusty clearly unimpressed by the rain! 1 Comment Every dog has its day. 05/22/2010
Finally my dogs got the better of me and reduced me to a screaming bansee! I realised that i was definitely not alpha anymore! Sometimes we all get lazy and don't make the effort to gentle assert ourselves and before you know it you dogs have some very bad habits. Sooo that said i have been dog training the last two days. For the first day the dogs thought their life was over and were sulking but today are happier than ever and being very respective!! Result. Today was a sorting out day at the farm and when we arrived loe and behold there was a new dog at the farm. He has heard about the easy life the dogs have with us and rocked up to moved in !! I don't think so. Our criteria with new dogs is, if they are dying or in danger we will take them, but not otherwise. If we did we would have 50 by the end of the week. This dog has a home for sure and is in good shape, so we will be looking for his owner, in the mean time he can hang out........and i wonder where that will lead! We have had some really big rains and the trails have stood up well, but Alonzo has had to do some clearing for fallen branches etc. Monday we have our first customers for the new honeymoon spa jungle adventure! It is a private tour with champagne and fruits, a private spring fed waterfall and spa mud to die for, all in their own private jungle setting, candles included!! Just had a wonderful session with my horse Archie. He is 5 years old and very damaged from the bad handling he experienced before we got him. He has been a very testing project, but thanks to Parelli horsemanship we are on the right road. Today we did our first ever work at liberty (no rope) it was amazing. I just played with gaining his confidence, we had some major breakthroughs of him being with me because he wanted to, not because he had to. It was wonderful and sent me even deeper in love with this horse! Birthday week! 05/11/2010
It was birthdays all round this week at Discovery Horse Tours. Julie our guide turned 21 again and i went back to 19 !! So all good here!!!haha It has been a great week and we even managed to escape to the luxury of a friends villa overlooking the ocean at Dominical, it was bliss. Today we got a new rescue dog in called Trevor! He is massive but very thin and showing a great interest in eating the cats which is a worry, still training day tomorrow so hopefully we can cure that. Matilda has gone to a new foster home closer to town to try and get more people to look at her with a view to adoption. She is such a great dog, i hope someone falls in love with her. Just had a great training session with Archie but rain put stop to play. Still he is growing up into a great horse. The photos are of Alonzo and Chris on the tractor. Ninka and Meril playing in the mud bath and Chris and i lazing around in paradise!! What a week! 05/04/2010
The big rains have hit ! We still managed to do tours but in the night wow has it been raining. Everyday we arrive at the farm to see what has changed, been damaged or indeed survived! We have been lucky and all of Chris's hard work seems to be holding firm. He managed to finish the roof on the barn this week the day before the big downpours so he was very happy. Tuesday was a day given over to chaos. I decided it would be a good idea to open the gates of the pastures onto the main farm road to let the horses eat the verges that are full of lovely grasses, however it didn't quite go to plan and all the horses galloped off in the loose direction of the main farm house and preceded to go on a jolly jaunt! Two also decided to go the other way and visit the local bar! Needless to say we ran around like loons and rounded them all up. That will be chalked up as a bad idea and won't be doing that again. Shortly after we rounded up the horses, the cows from the farm decided they wanted to live in the horses fields and ran through all the electric fencing! We decided it must be a weird lunar day. Still its all good and life on the farm races ever onward!
