The Masterson Technique 03/28/2010
WOW! Today i had an equine breakthrough. I had heard a lot about this guy in the US called Masterson that was great with muscle issues in horses. I ordered his DVD, watched it, took notes and headed off to the barn. Now i used to be a trained masseuse, so know about origin, action and insertion of muscles etc, but it is some what larger scale with horses. The little that i did, was so hugely rewarding, one horse (who is generally very standoffish) was a dead weight on my should while i worked behind his ears, he was moaning and grinding his teeth. When i finished he was yawning and yawning and you could tell he felt loads better. How cool! If anyone wants to check it out go to www.mastersonmethod.com Add Comment Never gets boring 03/27/2010
I don't think this job can ever get boring. Watching nature in it's natural environment inspires me everyday. I love what i do and i am so lucky to be able to do it. All those years when i sat in an office i used to dream of working outside, all that dreaming paid off! I love the law of attraction and believe in it 100%. Today we had a great ride with my friend Ann Jordan and her brood. The girls are all out of New Jersey and loved being in the jungle. They will be talking about the mud bath for a long time thats for sure. My horse is coming along great. Maybe , dare i say it Archie is finally growing up. Today he was a very good boy. Hopefully all the training we are doing with him is paying off. Sunday was a wonderful day, and one i had been looking forward to for a long time. It didn't turn out quite as i planned but it was great all the same. I have had the pleasure of my friend Linda from the UK visiting with her sister Fran. They are both riders, so when i heard about the local horse event of the year in our village here in Costa Rica, i thought we must go and join in. A cabalgata is an event where all the locals come together with their horses and go for a ride with a rest for a beer and a boca half way through. We prettied up the horses and cleaned our saddle. Cowboy hats on and my fab new boots from the UK (Thanks Mum your ace!) and we went off . It was crazy hot and a storm was brewing but i wasn't deterred! We rode off across the stunning Costa Rican countryside with 40 other cowboys. It was a wonderful day and i am waiting for photos. I stayed pretty cool for the second half of the ride whilst everyone else was sweating. That would be thanks to my horse Casper who decided to lie down in the river!!! How embarrassing! My new boots got filled with gravel. I was lovely and cool afterwards! Life on the farm 03/19/2010
Make hay when the sun shines as they say! Thankfully we have been really busy with clients this past month. Tourist season has arrived in Costa Rica and we have been meeting some fantastic people who have loved seeing the Rain forest here and appreciate our lovely horses. We are so lucky to enjoy our jobs! Julia and I have been guiding the tours and Chris has been very busy with his barefoot mission. Chris trims all our horses barefoot and we are proud to say most of our horses are now barefoot gravel crunchers without the need to have horrid metal shoes nailed on. Those that are not totally ready to go barefoot are happy hacking along in their Easy boot hoof boots. They are like Nike's for horses! He has also been trimming a lot of clients horses who believe like us that it is far more natural to have the horses barefoot even if it is a big commitment! Thanks to Chris there are a lot of happier horses in the area. The farm is overrun with rescue dogs right now and we have 8, but hopefully someone is coming this afternoon who can offer one a great home. Our latest arrival was a small sausage dog cross that is so sweet. We found her at the side of the road with no hair and covered in open wounds. We still dont know what colour she is going to be as her hair is not grown back yet, but i think she is going to make someone a great dog! My Parelli training (check out www.parelli.com) has been going great guns and we are hoping to have clients coming for horse training vacations in the not to distant future. They will get to ride the beautiful forests and rivers here in the mornings and then learn natural horsemanship techniques in the afternoon. All in all life is very exciting here at Discovery Horse Tours and we are loving every minute of it! The photo below is Julia (our guide) and Matilda the new rescue the day we picked her up! | AuthorDiscovery Horse Tours are dedicated to proving that working horses can be treated with love and dignity.
